MHR and Walkway Introduce Free Movie Nights

The Millman Harris Romano Foundation and The Walkway Over the Hudson Introduce Free Movie Nights Under the Walkway this summer.

May 6, 2015

Poughkeepsie, NY: A series of free, family-friendly movie nights are scheduled to take place beneath the Walkway Over the Hudson at the Upper Landing Park this summer. Additionally, in the fall, there will be an additional showing on the Highland side of the Walkway. Along with the featured films, there will be live entertainment as a pre-show and local vendors will be on hand to provide food and beverages. These community events are free and the public is invited to attend.

The screening dates have been scheduled as follows: July 11th, The Night at the Museum, Secret of the Tomb, July 25th, How To Train Your Dragon 2, and August 8th, Grease. Musical entertainment will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the feature film at sundown, approximately 8:30 p.m. These movie nights have been coordinated with the Dutchess Dragon Boat Race and Festival and the Upper Landing Park Community Day. On October 3rd, the final showing will take place under the tent on the evening following the Walkway’s Starry, Starry Nights Gala. The title of the final movie will be announced at a later date.

The MHR Foundation and the Walkway are partnering with several local nonprofits to orchestrate the film series for the community. Currently, the Poughkeepsie Public Library District, Spark Media Group, New York State Parks Department, Bardavon, Scenic Hudson, Dyson Foundation, and Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum compose the leadership team for this pilot program. The media sponsor is Clear Channel Communication and the promotional sponsors are Clark Patterson Lee Engineers, Mid-Hudson Subaru, Rhinebeck Ford, Marshall and Sterling Insurance, and Millman’s T-Shirt Factory.

This movie series has been organized to provide a free activity for the families of the community. Since these events will be at the Upper Landing Park under the stars, it is encouraged that all attending bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the movies.
